Never Fall for Your One that Got Away (It's Complicated, #4) by Kate O'Keeffe
If life gives you a second chance with the one that got away, should you take it?
Noah Grant was my first. He was the guy who went from childhood friend to teenage love. The guy I spent one heady, intoxicating summer with, only to have my heart snapped in two—not by him, but by me.
Fast forward eleven years and just when I think I’m finally over Noah, he’s back. Older, wiser, hotter.
Definitely hotter.
Work throws us together, and there’s no avoiding him, even if I wanted to. And I don’t want to avoid him, although I know I should.
But Noah’s hiding something. And if I let myself get close, could his secret break my heart all over again?
Never Fall for Your One that Got Away is a laugh-out-loud, swoon-worthy rom com with a second-chance-love, a totally swoony guy, and sweet romance. As with all the books in the It’s Complicated series, this is a closed-door romance with some incredible kissing and all the feels. It is a full-length novel and can be read as a standalone story.

This is the final book in the It's Complicated series, where we finally get Tabitha's love story. She has dated a bit, had a few boyfriends, and even a broken engagement, but she never really felt invested in any of those relationships. Because, as we come to find out, her heart still belongs to her first love, the one who got away; the who, as it turns out, she broke up with.
There really wasn't much to this love story, at least not plot-wise. Still, I found myself staying up way too late several nights in a row to read this book. The writing flows as smoothly as soft butter on warm rolls!
Also, second-chance romance is not my favorite motif. But this one was done very well. Other than the heartache they caused each other back in the day, and the time that they wasted when they could have been together, there was very little of the negative aspects I usually associate with this type of story: no failed marriages, or unwanted children, or vengeful ex's or the like.
Basically, most of the time - other than catching us up to what happened before - most of the time is spent with these two getting reacquainted. And realizing that they have still always loved one another.
I was confused as to whether or not Noah was actually an art dealer, or if that was just a story he made up. It seemed like his painting could have maybe supported him. And while I did understand why he kept that and some other information from Tabitha for awhile, there were some instances when he outright lied to her that I just did not care for.
Of course, it is lots of fun to see her friends and their significant others - as well as their dogs!
Tabitha's family are all horrible people. I can't believe that she didn't stand up more for Noah and her friends. It's no wonder she was such a jerk and a mess. It's actually amazing that she turned out as well as she did. Something that young Noah no doubt had a large part in.
Overall, a very pleasant read, with just a moderate amount of angst, and finally a happy ever after.

The adventures of the Zodiac Cusp Kids are laid to rest in the raw, cold February of 1989. The Portal has been spilling out more goop and increasingly dangerous goons for the past two years, and it’s getting worse. On top of that, the kids are facing a mysterious and charismatic figure from David’s past who’s not sitting quite right with Jenny. In order to decode the symbols from her vision, there’s only one thing to do; a week-long cram session at the library. The things they discover lead them straight toward the fight of everyone’s lives. It’s going to take every trick they’ve learned and the combined powers of The Coven, The Guardian, and the Zodiac Cusp Kids to end this story.
Something Final is the last of the stories drawn from Angie's diaries. Kept safely hidden for decades, they tell how the kids spent their teenage years - working with their mentor, Mr. Rakow, and Jenny's mom, Lorraine, who leads a coven, to come to the life-changing conclusion of their journey together.

This is the second book in the series, but the first one that I've read. I liked it well enough that I'd definitely pick up the others.
There are a lot of smexy times to this story! In fact, other than the prologue set years in the past, it starts off right in the midst of such a time. Hayes thinks this is finally the start of something between him and Deputy Megan Hager. Turns out though, she is not anywhere near done playing hard to get. First she refuses to see him, then she won't open up to him about some major drama happening in her life. Even to the point that she repeatedly pushes him away. He is not, however, one to be easily deterred. Hayes sticks to her like glue, showing his true colors. Megan has had her faith in men so shaken in the past that she doesn't dare believe what is right in front of her. It takes repeated interventions, not all of them exactly legal, before she finally believes that he means what he says about sticking around.

Excerpt
I arched a brow. “Are you daring me to disarm you, baby doll? Because I had a different kind of tussling in mind tonight, but I am totally down with whatever gets you hot.” Her eyes narrowed, but I saw a gleam of interest in them. She hit the release button to drop the magazine cartridge from the Glock then pulled back the slide to spit the live round out onto the floor. She loosened her shoulders. “Show me what you’ve got, big guy.” As much as I loved throwing my weight around in bed with Megan, in this scenario, I was loath to manhandle her. This was a losing proposition. As in, I’d better let her win because me winning would definitely be the wrong move. How did I know this? The gun to the head was a pretty solid giveaway. I eyed her for a solid ten seconds before my hand shot out to knock her wrist up. She landed an impressive karate-style kick in the center of my chest that knocked me back and out of range. This was how she wanted to play? “You’re toying with me,” she accused. “Nah.” I held my hand out for the weapon, and this time she handed it over. When she did, I caught her wrist and spun her around until her back hit my front, and I could restrain her from behind. Our arms were banded about her torso, and my hard dick was nestled against her perfect ass. “I just wait for the right opportunities,” I murmured against her ear.

I was not all that impressed with this book. Of course, it didn't help that I must have gotten confused and thought this was an actual full-length story. Turns out, it is just a short prequel. Spanning only seven chapters, it is probably the first seven chapters of the actual book. It doesn't even encompass everything listed in the book description.
Just not what I was expecting, I guess. I do quite enjoy Skye Warren's work as a general rule, and I also liked the little bit of Amelia Wilde's stuff that I've read. So perhaps future installments will have more to offer.
