BOOK REVIEW for "Never Fall for Your One that Got Away (It's Complicated, #4)" by Kate O'Keeffe

Never Fall for Your One that Got Away
(It's Complicated, #4)
by Kate O'Keeffe

If life gives you a second chance with the one that got away, should you take it?

Noah Grant was my first. He was the guy who went from childhood friend to teenage love. The guy I spent one heady, intoxicating summer with, only to have my heart snapped in two—not by him, but by me.

Fast forward eleven years and just when I think I’m finally over Noah, he’s back. Older, wiser, hotter.

Definitely hotter.

Work throws us together, and there’s no avoiding him, even if I wanted to. And I don’t want to avoid him, although I know I should.

But Noah’s hiding something. And if I let myself get close, could his secret break my heart all over again?

Never Fall for Your One that Got Away is a laugh-out-loud, swoon-worthy rom com with a second-chance-love, a totally swoony guy, and sweet romance. As with all the books in the It’s Complicated series, this is a closed-door romance with some incredible kissing and all the feels. It is a full-length novel and can be read as a standalone story.

***(3) out of 5 Stars

This is the final book in the It's Complicated series, where we finally get Tabitha's love story.  She has dated a bit, had a few boyfriends, and even a broken engagement, but she never really felt invested in any of those relationships.  Because, as we come to find out, her heart still belongs to her first love, the one who got away; the who, as it turns out, she broke up with.

There really wasn't much to this love story, at least not plot-wise.  Still, I found myself staying up way too late several nights in a row to read this book.  The writing flows as smoothly as soft butter on warm rolls!

Also, second-chance romance is not my favorite motif.  But this one was done very well.  Other than the heartache they caused each other back in the day, and the time that they wasted when they could have been together, there was very little of the negative aspects I usually associate with this type of story: no failed marriages, or unwanted children, or vengeful ex's or the like.

Basically, most of the time - other than catching us up to what happened before - most of the time is spent with these two getting reacquainted.  And realizing that they have still always loved one another.

I was confused as to whether or not Noah was actually an art dealer, or if that was just a story he made up.  It seemed like his painting could have maybe supported him.  And while I did understand why he kept that and some other information from Tabitha for awhile, there were some instances when he outright lied to her that I just did not care for.

Of course, it is lots of fun to see her friends and their significant others - as well as their dogs!

Tabitha's family are all horrible people.  I can't believe that she didn't stand up more for Noah and her friends.  It's no wonder she was such a jerk and a mess.  It's actually amazing that she turned out as well as she did.  Something that young Noah no doubt had a large part in.

Overall, a very pleasant read, with just a moderate amount of angst, and finally a happy ever after.
