I remembered my mission and left Haley, speeding up my pace as I searched for the tallest head in the bar. Brax wasn’t hard to find—he towered over ninety percent of the other patrons filling the place.
I spotted him over near the stage, his hands above his head leaning against the wall. As I got closer, I could see he was talking to a woman, who was much shorter than he. She had her back against the wall and her eyes were all starry as they peered up at him. Typical. I hadn’t even been there an hour and I had to put up with that. Not that it bothered me at all. Nope, not one single bit. Brax was a grown man who could do whatever he wanted. Who was I kidding? I was so jealous it hurt. God, why couldn’t he look at me like that?
Setting my irritation and jealousy aside, I pushed my way through the crowd and planted myself right in the middle of their partnering; facing the woman, I smiled.
“Sorry, I only need one moment of my neighbor’s time. Just one little second,” I said and raised my pointer finger to face height so she understood over the music.
I didn’t wait for her reply but immediately turned and stared up into the face of a God—crap, I mean Brax. I didn’t have time for lusty thoughts about him right now.
Brax opened his mouth to speak, but I covered it with my palm.
“No time for your cocky words, my friend. Did you do what I asked? Just nod, that’s all I need from you tonight. Save your words for what’s-her-face behind me.”
I could feel Brax laugh, his mouth moving behind my hand as he nodded up and down.
“Great, where is he?” I continued.
Brax just raised an eyebrow as I waited for his reply. I realized why he wasn’t answering and quickly removed my palm from his mouth.
“You look adorable tonight, Jess.”
Those velvety words streamed from his mouth, well, actually, were hollered, but my mind wanted to imagine it another way. Stupid man! He had no idea what he did to me. It took a lot of effort to act as if his presence didn’t affect me. Every. Damn. Day.
I hit him in the stomach. I wasn’t falling for his smoothness this time. Other girls would, but I’ve been living next to him for years and have heard it all before.
“Knock it off. Now hurry up and tell me where Goatee Guy is,” I demanded, entirely over the conversation already.
Brax peered around me before leaning over my shoulder to whisper something in the woman’s ear behind me. I knew then what being the meat in a sandwich felt like and it was pretty darn uncomfortable as my backside pushed into her front. Nevertheless, she didn’t seem to care as she giggled girlishly into my ear.
Brax stood up straight once more and flung an arm around my shoulder, pulling me away from the side of the club and making way for us through the crowd. As we reached the bar, I pushed his arm off and away and took a seat on a vacant stool. His two arms placed themselves on either side of my body, caging me in as I waited for one of the bartenders to take my order.
“First off, his name is not Goatee Guy. He’s my brother and his name is Thomas. But I’ll let him know what you call him. And yes, Thomas is here,” Brax whispered in my ear. If that bar wasn’t holding me up, the floor and I would have been quite acquainted.
“So, where is he then?” I managed to groan out. I hoped I sounded annoyed and not super flustered, which is what I was feeling with his uber-close proximity.
“I don’t know. I’m not his keeper, but he’s here somewhere,” Brax snorted. “Why is it so important to get him here anyway? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love hanging with my baby bro, but you were adamant he had to come tonight, which makes me think you’re up to something,” Brax spoke into my ear again.
I couldn’t take it. Screw the drink, I needed fresh air A.S.A.P. Ducking under his arm, I pushed him out of the way and made a beeline for the beer garden. But as I pushed open the glass door, I felt the impact and heard, “Argh!!!” Oh God, I’d pushed the door straight into some poor guy’s nose!
I let go of the door and brought my hands up to cover my face, too scared to look. Oh God, oh God, oh God. I felt the chilly gust of air as the door was flung open again. Taking a peek out through the crack between my fingers, I saw none other than Goatee, I mean Thomas, holding a hand over his bleeding nose.
“Shit! Thomas! Oh my God, I’m so sorry!” I cried.
Grabbing him by the shirtsleeve, I took the lead and began pulling him as fast as I could through the crowd and towards the back offices where I knew Damon kept his first-aid kit. Being accident prone, I had to know exactly where he kept the medical supplies. Usually, I was fine—it was other people that really needed to steer clear of me completely or give me a tremendously wide-berth.
As we walked along the corridor, the perfect opportunity presented itself—May was just coming out of the women’s bathroom. That’s when I decided to push Thomas in front of her.
“May, you have to help him! I’m freaking out about all the blood.”
“Oh, jeepers. What happened?” May asked urgently, trying cautiously to peer behind Thomas’ hands to inspect the damage.
“I happened. I pushed a door into his face, which, mind you, I’m going to have to talk to Damon about the dangers…”
“Yes, you do that, Jess,” May cut my rambling. She grabbed Thomas and led him to the end of the corridor and through the door into the office.
I watched them disappear and couldn’t help but smile. Plan “Help May Find Love” was officially in play! Damn, this whole matchmaker thing was working like a charm. Maybe I had found my new calling—Sparkles the Matchmaker fairy.
The sad thing was I had no idea exactly what was about to be set in motion.

BOOK BLITZ for "The Boss (Fire’s Edge, #1)" by Abigail Owen

The Boss
(Fire’s Edge, #1)
by Abigail Owen
Published by: Entangled: Amara
Publication date:
September 24th, 2018
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance
Finn Conleth leads his team of enforcer dragon shifters with an iron fist and a cold heart. Every dragon seeks his destined mate, but the process to turn the woman he once thought was his killed her and devastated him. He will never risk his heart again. His team is his family now. When his body eventually gives out, he’ll leave, living his last days alone.
Delaney Hamilton moved across the country to escape the freak fires that plague her. But when another suspicious fire erupts and rapidly escalates around her, her hopes for a new life go up in smoke. She has no choice but to turn to the mysterious men who come to her aid.
Finn knows the fire is dragon-caused, which puts Delaney’s problems directly in his jurisdiction. No matter how her wounded grey eyes call to every part of him, he refuses to risk her life in the mating process.
Until another dragon threatens to claim Delaney for his own, and Finn has to sacrifice everything to keep her alive…

No way was she misinterpreting the need reflecting back at her.
Say it, she silently urged. Too proud to beg out loud. Do something.
“What do you want, Finn?” she repeated.
He tipped his head down, though his gaze remained on her, but the light in those blue depths shifted, turning from banked need, held ruthlessly in check, to a possessiveness that drew her body into aching awareness.
He pulled lightly on her wrist, drawing her across what had been an impassable chasm of space, until she was flush against his hard body. His other hand came under the fall of her hair to rest against her neck.
She didn’t look away, not even as he lowered his head, his movement agonizingly slow. His mouth only a whisper from hers, he stopped.
“You,” he said. “I want you.”
Finally. She had no idea if she closed the distanced between their lips or if he did. She only knew that she was getting exactly what she wanted.
Sensation forced her eyes closed as the heat of him seeped into her skin, her body flushing with it, swamping her senses. Their tongues tangled, his mouth hard and urgent against hers, like he couldn’t get enough, like he needed to possess her. The speed of her body’s reaction was so fast, so immediate, that she went dizzy with the need, like looking over the edge of a terrifying drop.
She was too out of her element, too out of control, but she didn’t want to stop. She wanted more.
He released her wrist, wrapping his arm around her waist, her softness yielding to his hard body as he held her closer. At the same time, he loosened his grip on her neck, brushing over the sensitive skin at her nape with his fingers.
Shards of electricity zapped from that simple touch directly to her core, which throbbed in response. At the same time, warmth from that touch spread through her on a wave of a feeling akin to total acceptance. Like this was where she was supposed to be. A low moan dragged from her mouth as he lifted her, just enough that it put him in complete control. He slipped a thigh between her legs, then pressed her down.
Holy hell.
Delaney leaned into him, her body softening into his, attuned to what his wicked hands and lips were doing to her even as her heart beat fast as hummingbird’s wings just to be in his arms. She arched into him, moving against him with a moan.
His hand slid under her shirt and he brushed against the sensitive flesh at her waist, his skin warm against hers. Which only made her want more skin.
With eager hands, she tugged at his black t-shirt, breaking their kisses only long enough to pull it over his head. Then she allowed her hands to roam, to feel the rigid strength in his body, loving the heat of him, the bourbon and Coke smell of him.
A shudder shook his body. “I want you.” He paused, then said something else under his breath. Something like, “More than I should let myself.” But then his lips were back on hers, addling her senses and taking over her mind.
A bellow rent the air and jerked Delaney out of the oblivion of pleasure where she floated. She snapped her head up, breaking the kiss to listen. Another sound that she could only classify as a roar broke the stillness.
“What was that?” she asked. Fear, rather than need, had her heart tripping over itself inside her chest. “It sounds like a…wounded animal.”
Finn gave a low rumble that sounded more like a warning growl than anything a human would make, and her heart slammed into high gear. Slowly, dread pulling at her, she turned her head to look directly at him.
To encounter eyes ablaze. Not figuratively. Literally ablaze. Blue flames consumed his irises.
What the hell? Panic spiked inside her, and her breath came out in short, sharp bursts, speeding up as she absorbed what she was seeing.
Adrenaline joined the fear and she shoved his chest. Hard.
She must’ve surprised him, because Finn released her, stumbling back a few paces. She managed to keep her feet under her, then scrambled back, trying not to trip over any rocks in her path.
He held up his hands. “Delaney, don’t—”
She did the only thing she could. She ran.

BLOG TOUR & AUTHOR INTERVIEW for "Hardwired" by Andrea Bills

by Andrea Bills
Publication date: September 1st, 2018
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense
When Navy Seal Operative Luke Kiersey is finally granted leave after five years, he finds himself driving to a house he doesn’t recognize in a town he’s never been to. The house is home to a beautiful woman and a little girl with big blue eyes. Day after day, he drives back only to hide in the shadows and wonder why he can’t seem to walk away from them.
His therapist says is PTSD.
His handler tells him he’s just not cut out to be part of the civilian world.
Luke can’t help but feel like it’s more.
The dog tags that once hung proudly around his neck, now feel like a collar; leashing him to a life that he fears he didn’t choose. After the terrible things he’s done in the name of freedom, could he possibly be worthy of something as precious as the woman and child he continues to watch?
When the two worlds collide, Luke needs his mind to be stronger than the implant the government placed in his back. They’ve told him he can’t survive without the implant they use to control him, but Luke’s wondering if he can survive without the little girl with big blue eyes and the gorgeous woman she calls mamma.

~AUTHOR INTERVIEW with Andrea Bills~

1) What gave you the inspiration for the storyline?

I love this question when asked specifically for this book. I was on a road trip by myself and Halsey’s song Gasoline came on the radio. That was it for me, Luke’s story surfaced and I pulled over so that I could purge the initial plot line from my mind immediately.

2) Are there any hidden themes in the book that you hope readers will discover?

This is tricky. I don’t live a military life, nor do I know anyone in the military so I can’t pretend to know what they go through. However, I hope that the underlying theme of this book is that your PTSD or your disabilities, or even your loss DO NOT define you. Jen deals with loss and she loses herself in the grief, and she wonders if she will always be the widow. Luke’s disability, so to speak, weighs heavy on his mind, and he feels that it completely defines him. He also deals with PTSD, but it goes further than that to include what everyone around him thinks his PTSD does to him. So he knows how he feels and what his PTSD is like, but he also has his therapist, his handler and his Commanding Officer all telling him how his PTSD makes him feel. Again I’m no expert but I feel like that has to be something that happens to our Veterans, and to our military spouses, so I felt compelled to bring that to the surface.
Our military men and women don’t deserve to have everyone else’s preconceived notions about their struggles pushed on them. They have enough to deal with, and I think sometimes helping is simply listening and accepting.

3) Are any of the characters based on real people you know?

Bella is based on my own daughter, and a lot of her mannerisms and the things she says are things my daughter has done. Also Jen’s mom and dad are based on my own parents, which my daughter does in fact call them Mam and Pap. My daughter also demands to always eat with a fork and spoon no matter what’s on her plate because one time my mom gave her both for a bowl of cereal. Last but not least Shatara in the book is based on my niece.

4) Who has influenced you most as a writer?

There are so many influences on my writing both from other authors to just people in my life. As far as literary people, Julie Garwood is a huge influence, as she is and still is my favorite author. I adore her ability to create suspense in her books, and I strive to be able to do the same in my own.

As far as outside of the literary world, my husband is a big influence just simply because he refuses to let me give up on things. He’s definitely not a back seat driver when it comes to me. He’s in my face, inspiring and encouraging me. My favorite is when he becomes angry on my behalf of a bad review, he doesn’t quite understand that they’re going to happen and it’s part of this world, he still gets all chivalrous and wants to swoop in and save the day.

5) If you could have any three literary characters over to your place for game night, who would you invite, what would you play, what would you serve, and why?

Ugh, three is such a small number. I mean is it a typo? Did you really mean like three hundred? Lol

Okay, okay. Sooo, I’d love to have Nick over, he’s from my own work Exchange of Power. He and I just need to have a chat is all so it would be great if he could pop over for dinner. If he came over I would serve blueberry breakfast cake, and we would play, Clue. One because he loves blueberry breakfast cake and the latter because he’s an FBI agent, and his life is solving clues, so who better to play.
Jamie from Outlander is one. I mean do I have to explain this at all? It’s Jamie Fraser; in my house, eating my food. It’s EVERY woman’s fantasy. I would probably order a pizza, simply because I don’t have time to cook when that mans in my presence, and secondly I desperately wonder all the time what he would think of pizza, if Claire can one day pull him into the future. We would play Chess, because I haven’t a clue how to play it, and I feel like I would be learning from the master.
Lastly, Cole from Pam Godwin’s Tangled Lies series. I fell in love with that man in that series! We would eat burgers and fries, because he seems like a burger and fries kind of man, and I would play Twister with him because come on….it’s a Pam Godwin character, that’s bound to be exciting. ;)

6) Do you feel that you can ever have too many books?

No. Never.

Author Bio:
Andrea is a wife, mother and writer from small town West Virginia. She spends her time while she’s not dreaming up lovers and villains alike chasing after her two kids and husband.

Her overactive imagination and her husband’s wacky dreams attribute to her love of the written word. Guilty pleasures include reading all night and Reese Cups.

BOOK BLITZ for "Through the Layers (Rumor Has It, #4)" by R.H. Tucker

Through the Layers
(Rumor Has It, #4)
by R.H. Tucker
Publication date: September 17th, 2018
Genres: New Adult, Romance
Second chances are for suckers.
Micah’s heard that expression before. With his first year of college in the books, catching his girlfriend cheating on him—again—he learns that lesson firsthand. The girl he thought could’ve been his high school sweetheart, turns out to be nothing more than a liar, completely destroying his trust.
No one has ever called Veronica fat. Thick? Okay. Curvy? Sure. However, they’ve never come right out and told her she’s overweight. Not unless you count the kids in third grade who called her roly-poly. Grade school or freshman year of college, it doesn’t matter. Guys usually go for the tall, thin girls. Girls like Micah’s ex.
Despite their hang-ups, and their pasts, Micah and Veronica find something in each other that quells their concerns. But when old faces return, and unsettling truths are revealed, will either of them be able to work through the layers and find one another again?
Through the Layers is a standalone YA/NA romance in the Rumor Has It series.

I knock again and pull out my phone. Maybe I should call him.
The door swings open and Micah stands there, dripping wet, holding a towel around his waist. “Hey, you’re early.”
“I … I …” I’m trying to form words, but my brain has gone to pudding. I can feel it, all squishy, sloshing around inside of my skull. He opens the door wider to let me in, but I just stand there, admiring—gawking—at the water dripping down his chest. The beads of water trail over his muscles, down his stomach, to somewhere underneath the towel.
“You gonna stay out there all night?”
My eyes shoot back up, and he’s smiling. “Would you like to come inside or did you want to get to business out there?” My mouth drops, and he laughs.
Finally realizing he’s teasing me, I find some kind of strength to not stare at him, and go inside.
“Just give me a second to dry off.”
I stop and stand behind the sofa. Usually, I’d feel comfortable enough to go to the kitchen and grab something to drink, or just lounge around on their couch, or even head straight into his bedroom and turn on the TV and start to watch something. Now, I’m stuck.
What should I do? Does he expect me to do something or say something? Should we have something to drink first? I know they usually have some alcohol in the apartment, maybe he wants to relax first. Should I change already? Why is it they make it look so much easier in the movies and on TV when it comes to this sort of stuff?
“What are you doing?” Micah asks, coming back out of the bathroom. He’s got on a pair of shorts and a shirt that fits him snuggly, but I can’t erase—nor do I want to—the mental image of him opening the door in nothing but a towel.
“Um …” I look around, unsure how to answer.
He gives me a hug and kisses the top of my head, before walking to the kitchen. “Happy birthday. I ordered a pizza. I would’ve gone all out, but you said you just wanted a chill night. Is that okay?”
“Mm-hm.” I nod.
Turning around, he stares at me still standing there. “Are you okay?”
Get it together, V. This was your idea!

Author Bio:
RH Tucker lives in Southern California and writes character-driven stories with people who have real heart. At least, he tries to. He also consumes too much caffeine, eats too much pizza, and firmly believes Rocky Road is the best flavor of ice cream.

RELEASE BLITZ & BOOK REVIEW for "Glorious Sinner (Lawless Kings, #4.5)" by Sherilee Gray

****(4) out of 5 Stars!

People say Tomas Mendoza is dangerous.

They’re right.

But he saved my life.

I owe him, and all I have to repay the ruthless crime boss… is me. I tell myself it’s not pity that burns in his eyes when I dance for him, that my walls are so high he can’t see how broken I am inside.

Now danger stalks me again, and Tomas swoops in, only this time he shows me a different side of himself. Fierce protectiveness. Raw hunger. A tenderness that could sear through the barriers I raised to safeguard my heart and soul.

My past taught me not to trust. But this glorious sinner might be the one man I need to learn to love again.

A-mazing!  That’s the only word to describe this awesomeness of a novel.  Whoever would have thought that a crime kingpin could be such a sympathetic character.  Having only read the prior Lawless Kings book (Ruthless Protector), not all of the series, I only had a brief introduction to Tomas previously.  But he was definitely portrayed as attractive, appealing and so very dangerous.  (The fact that in that story he went to Jude when Willa tried to borrow money from him, acting like a concerned friend rather than just a loan shark, spoke volumes to me though about how much he is truly a complex character.)

Tomas this big, tough guy, crime boss, who, by his own admission, has done a lot of things both illegal and immoral, things that would scare most regular people.  And yet… with Stephanie he is almost a different person entirely.  He is so kind, considerate, gentle and caring.  He has loved her from the moment he first saw her and never stopped.  Despite huge barriers to their relationship, both real and perceived, he has always been there for her.

"That’s why I came in all those nights, because I couldn’t stay away, because I’ve wanted you since the first time I laid eyes on you.  You have all the control, baby, all of it.  I’m yours to command."

But Stephanie is, sadly, very much damaged goods.  Tomas finally decides that he can’t be around her anymore with things how they are – or rather, aren’t – between them, so he tells her that he’s going to stay away.  The ball is in her court though, because she knows how to get ahold of him.  Almost luckily, her psycho estranged husband shows up to threaten her, and she is forced to ask Tomas for his protection.  Luckily, she does so at least (rather than try to run away from her problems like Willa did).

Other than the fact that Ryan is a sick prick who terrorizes them for a couple of weeks, things actually work out well.  Tomas and Stephanie are forced into close proximity, she finally begins to believe how much he truly cares for her, and even starts to let him within the shell she’s erected around herself.  Despite feeling that he was never good enough for her and fearing that he can’t give her what she needs, Tomas instinctively does help her regain her self-esteem and control of her own life.

“…And as much as I wanted you before now, you weren’t ready.  Now you are, and because of that, I have all of you.”  He kissed me softly.  “I’m going to make sure you don’t regret giving that to me, not for one moment.”
Warmth curled in my chest.  “How could I, when I’m with the man I love?”
                He made a rough sound.
“Until you…”  I had to swallow the lump forming in my throat.  “I never know… I had no idea…”  I took a steadying breath.  “Thank you for showing me what real love is,” I said.

These two are very much the central two characters of this story.  Even crazy Ryan only plays a real minor role.  We are treated to glimpses at least of most of the characters from prior books in the series though, which is always fun.  And the expanded character of Arthur the butler is one that I found delightful; he is definitely good people.

One of the only real problems that I had with the novel (other than the abuse that Stephanie suffered at the hands of her ex obviously) related to the plotting of the last dramatic scene.  I found it totally implausible that Tomas, even after seeing Ryan at his house, leaves the premises with Stephanie and old man Arthur totally unguarded.  Sure, they had an excellent security system on the house.  But electronic devices can malfunction or fail, and as we saw in this instance, they only work when you actually remain inside of them.  I couldn't believe there was anyway that Tomas wouldn't have left some of his thugs or the King Agency guys or someone to protect them.

All in all, however, this was an incredible book and an amazing love story, and Tomas is most certainly one of the best book boyfriends EVER!

BOOK REVIEW for "Sheets" by Brenna Thummler

***(3) out of 5 stars!

Marjorie Glatt feels like a ghost. A practical thirteen year old in charge of the family laundry business, her daily routine features unforgiving customers, unbearable P.E. classes, and the fastidious Mr. Saubertuck who is committed to destroying everything she's worked for.

Wendell is a ghost. A boy who lost his life much too young, his daily routine features ineffective death therapy, a sheet-dependent identity, and a dangerous need to seek purpose in the forbidden human world.

When their worlds collide, Marjorie is confronted by unexplainable disasters as Wendell transforms Glatt's Laundry into his midnight playground, appearing as a mere sheet during the day. While Wendell attempts to create a new afterlife for himself, he unknowingly sabotages the life that Marjorie is struggling to maintain.

Sheets illustrates the determination of a young girl to fight, even when all parts of her world seem to be conspiring against her. It proves that second chances are possible whether life feels over or life is over. But above all, it is a story of the forgiveness and unlikely friendship that can only transpire inside a haunted laundromat.

This is a cute, heartbreaking and heartwarming tale about a young girl and a young ghost.  The pacing for this tale was soooooo sllll-oooow!  I just about fell asleep several times in the first half or so of the storyline; which is generally quite a feat while reading a graphic novel.  It was just extremely boring without a whole lot of anything going on.

About the only thing that kept me going was my anger at how badly everyone in the book treated Marjorie.  From kids her age to adults who should have known better, they were basically all a bunch of jerks, with very few exceptions.  I really wanted to bash in some animated heads at several points during the narrative.  Of course, Wendell isn't treated too much better in his world.

Once the two meet and start working together, things greatly improve for both of them.  Thank goodness!  Once we discover the fact that they did and how they knew each other previously, things start to fall into place even more.  And they eventually are able to achieve a rather nice, if bittersweet, happily ever after, or at least happily for now, ending.

I was also not impressed with the graphics.  Although the muted color schemes were attractive, I found the drawings themselve to be very simplistic.  The humans especially just look quite odd.

Basically, this book just didn't "speak" to me all that much.

BOOK REVIEW for "Good Nights (Love Again, #2)" by Heather Grace Stewart

***(3) out of 5 stars!

Can a technological glitch bring you more than headaches? What if it brings you lasting love? When an app messes with her travel plans, Hannah discovers a whole new world full of laughter and romance.

TV writer Hannah Storm's marriage is over, she's just turned 30, and she's lost her job. Overwhelmed with how her life has turned out, and suffering from writer's block, she decides to throw caution to the wind and books a month in a rental home on an island off the coast of France, using a new app, Good Nights. But it's pouring rain, and someone's in her rental home. Hannah doesn't quite get the Tripp she planned on... this one has brawn, brains, and a hot British accent.

Join Hannah and Tripp on their island adventures with this witty, touching, romantic comedy page-turner. It’s the perfect beach and holiday book; ideal for lounging by the pool in summer and curling up by the fire on cold winter nights.

This is indeed a witty, touching, romantic read.  Not exactly a page-turner though.  In fact, there were often times that were so slow and boring that I wanted to just put down the book.  Also a lot of the pretense of the storyline was just ridiculous (such as the search for the extinct bird, as well as the elaborate plans so suddenly developed to showcase it).  Not to mention what a jerk Tripp is at the start of the book.  But watching him and Hannah interact proved quite entertaining, especially as they both morph and change into better versions of themselves, thanks to the other's influence.  It was a joy to watch them fall in love, and actually develop an adult relationship.  Some of the secondary characters, while playing a much smaller role, are absolutely delightful themselves though, especially Béatrice, Hank, and of course, Jughead and Coffee.  It is a good choice for anyone looking for a humorous, light, romantic read.
