When the authorities strike to regain control over the riots in Eboracum City and use drastic measures as retaliation against the civilians, the citizens are forced to fight back to survive. A virus has spread through the Underground, taking down the refugees one by one, soon contaminating the rebels. If Thia wants to save the ones she loves, she will have to retrieve the cure, quickly. But certain decisions are costly, and not all actions are free of consequences.

~AUTHOR INTERVIEW with Alice Rachel~

1) What gave you the inspiration for the storyline?

Reality. The horrible things humans do to one another. Things I wish would finally change.

2) Are there any hidden themes in the book that you hope readers will discover?

I don't think the themes are hidden: Feminism, climate change, homophobia, xenophobia, and misogyny...  I also wish to raise awareness about depression and abuse.

3) Are any of the characters based on real people you know?

Chi and Thia are both based on me.  No other character is based on anyone I know, though Taylor is the most like my husband.

4) Who has influenced you most as a writer?

There are authors I deeply admire, such as J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, Sire Cedric.  They don't write in my genre though, but they inspire me to do better.

5) If you could have any three literary characters over to your place for game night, who would you invite, what would you play, what would you serve, and why?

From my own series or someone else's novels? Can I answer with both?

1- From my own series:

Terrence because he's my sweet baby. Out of all my characters, he is the one I really wish was real. He's so sweet and fun.

Chase because he's so relaxed most of the time.

Kayla or Akio (if possible together and I'd have four guests) because they are hilarious together...Or at least, I think they are. =p

I would invite them, but we'd eat something Chase would cook because everything he makes is delicious. I would serve dinner.

Knowing Chase, he'd probably we played something like Truth or Dare or something similar.

2- From books other than my own:

Raymond and David from Santino Hassell's books because I love them so much, and they seem like they'd be really fun to be around.

Day from Marie Lu's series because he's adorable.

Warner from Tahereh Mafi's series. Because he's Warner! And I'd spend all evening staring at him. *snorts*

I would invite. Ray would cook. Day and I would serve dinner. And we'd play something like Trivial Pursuit because that's what Warner would choose, probably...maybe?

Thank you so much for the fun interview. :-)
