BOOK BLITZ for "The Last Huntsman" by Page Morgan

The Last Huntsman
by Page Morgan
Publication date: September 9th, 2019
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult
No women. No children. No torture. The Huntsman has his rules.
For years, Tobin has done his emperor’s bidding, eliminating threats to the Empire of Morvansk. But when he is ordered to kill the lovely Princess Mara, Tobin’s absolute loyalty ends. The emperor’s punishment is swift and lethal, and Tobin is left with only one desire: vengeance.
Stay quiet. Stay hidden. Stay free. These are the rules Ever lives by.
Raised as a boy by her overprotective father, Ever has something the Morvansk emperor covets: mirror magic. With it, she can see anyone, anywhere, through the mirror’s glass. The emperor stole her mother years ago for this same magic, and now, he wants Ever, too.
When Ever’s mirror shows the wounded rebel huntsman approaching her village, she’s compelled to help him. But as Tobin and Ever grow closer, and their secrets intertwine, they’ll have to follow the rules they’ve always lived by — or break free from them, once and for all.

Excerpt:

The shriek of a bird drew my eyes to the trees above. When I looked down, Mara stepped into the clearing. The call of the nuisance bird muted, as did everything else in the world surrounding the glade. She came through the tall grasses, her lavender colored skirts gathered in her hands to keep the hem from getting soiled against the ground.
I closed my eyes and forced forward the image of my mother. Of Kinn, of Lael. The worst five minutes of my life were about to unfold, and I had to keep those three faces present if I had any hope of following through.
I opened my eyes as Mara searched the glade for Orin, the man she believed had beckoned her there. She lifted her face to the sun, most likely chilled from the walk through the dim forest.
Mother.
Kinn.
Lael.
I looked into the hushed wood. Her ladies would have made plenty of noise had they followed, and her guards’ steel swords and metal fixtures would have been a clattering racket. She’d come alone, just as the note had bid.
She fiddled nervously with the front tucks of her skirt, not seeing me as I stood. I parted the flexible pines and stepped past the young green needles, coming to the edge of the brook’s banking. It was then that the princess spotted me. She let out a small yelp and dropped her skirts. Covering her mouth with her hands, Mara released her breath.
“Huntsman, you frightened me.” She lowered her hand and sent me a small smile, though it quickly fell. “What are you doing here? You didn’t…did you read the note you delivered this morning?”
Don’t look at her. Don’t listen to her.
“Forgive me, of course you didn’t. Are you hunting?” she asked as I stepped across the three rocks in the brook and into the glade.
The sun hit me, and my legs turned to dead weight. They didn’t want to move any closer. My hands, too, stayed heavy at my sides. The blade with the prince’s crest was inside my trouser waistline, and my own personal blades were where I always kept them.
“I’m meeting the prince,” she said, her voice notched louder. “It’s not very indecent, considering we are to be married,” she added with a half smile.
I strode through the grass toward her, pushing the slab of stone in my chest lower to crush the rapid beating of my heart. Mara’s shrewd eyes narrowed. My presence made her nervous, yet she didn’t back away as I came to within a foot of her.
Mother.
Kinn.
Lael.
“The prince is not coming.”
Mara looked sideways at me. “How do you know this?” Her facial muscles went slack. “You’ve done something to him.”
“I’ve already told you,” I said. Level. Clear. “The emperor did not send me to kill the prince.”
She wanted to believe me. Just like she believed me the other night when I said we were friends. I could see it in the way she shifted her bottom lip side to side, gripping the inside of it with her teeth.
“Then why have you followed me here?” she asked.
There was not supposed to be any conversation. I’d been taught to be brief, to make sure the target knew who had come for him and why, and then to finish before the target could beg or offer money in return for leniency.
“I didn’t follow you.” I reached inside my jacket and gripped Orin’s blade, the gold of the crossed hilt cool under my hot, sweaty palm.
She stared at me with a confused grimace, paying no attention to my hand.
“I led you here,” I said. “It is Emperor Frederic’s order, princess. I am only his servant.”
The last sentence spilled out of my mouth unintentionally, and with it, I caught the first whiff of my decaying will. The Huntsman didn’t explain himself. The Huntsman didn’t make excuses.
I pulled the dagger and stepped forward so swiftly Mara didn’t know to resist. She was taller than me, but I was stronger and faster; I wrapped my arm around her neck and her knees buckled, her chin wedging tight inside my crooked elbow. She screamed, but my bicep and forearm squelched it into a sputtering croak.
Mother.
Kinn.
Lael.

Excerpt:

The cover-up comes off first.
“Sophie…”
There’s a warning edge to Max’s voice. One I choose to ignore.
“Don’t do it.”
A sly wink over my shoulder precedes my bikini top being untied. I pull it off and dangle it from my finger for a moment. I glance back to watch his reaction as I let go, delighting when his eyes watch it land on the deck. Then they track up my half-naked body and pause on the middle of my back, knowing what he’ll see if I turn around. When my fingers curl underneath the bikini string at my hips, his gaze finally reaches mine.
He slowly shakes his head. “No.”
“Por qué? You’ve seen it all before, right?”
The seam across his forehead deepens, as if he’s in pain. Pain he wouldn’t be in if he’d just release his fervent hold on that ridiculous stubbornness of his. You made the rules, buddy.
“How’s that frustration feel?” I challenge.
His furious eyes narrow. With that, I push the bottoms down, letting the soft breeze kiss my bare flesh, and kick them off to the side. The deep rumble I hear from his direction is part angry growl, part tormented groan. Because I have a cruel streak in me, I give my hips a quick shake before diving into the calm black water.
No mercy tonight.
And no thinking.
The yacht is docked in its own small private marina. There aren’t any other boats around, so I’m not worried about being seen. Plus, the sun set hours ago. Aside from the deck lights, we’re shrouded in darkness.
I’ll admit this whole no thinking business is incredibly appealing.
I break the water’s surface to find Max standing at the edge of the deck, hands on hips, glaring at me. I blow him a kiss and backstroke through the pleasantly cool water.
“You think you’re clever?” he calls out.
“Jump in if you want to do something about it. The water’s just fine.”
He grunts, shifting on his feet. His lips tighten into a flat line, clearly fighting with himself.
“Come and teach me a lesson, papí.”
That seems to do the trick. His face darkens as he unbuttons his white shirt. I watch unblinking as he removes it, exposing his bare muscular chest to the moonlight. His compact abs ripple with his every movement. His hands go to his belt, deftly removing it with dexterous fingers. I wait on bated breath for a glimpse of his noticeable bulge, but he switches to his shoes.
I raise my eyes to his, glowering.
He blows me a kiss and winks. Smartass.
He clearly knows what I want. And I know what he wants. I just have to play this right if we’re both going to be fulfilled.
Finally, he shoves his slacks down, revealing black boxer briefs. I’m biting my lip in anticipation when he pushes those briefs down his strong thighs. The light casts on his long, thick length as it bobs, jutting out beneath a small thatch of black hair. His shaft is smooth, the mushroom head tipped in pre-cum. I remember how that girth feels inside me, stretching me, massaging every part of me.
This plan better not backfire.
“Christ, woman,” he rasps. “You’re going to ruin me.”
He dives into the water, his body cutting through it with the grace and precision of an athlete. Someone used to honing his body into a weapon that will work for him, rather than against him. With every physical exertion, a man like Max becomes stronger, more powerful. More adept at ruling over others.
He's a dangerous man. In so many ways. I should fear him.

But I don’t. Not even close.

~ BOOK REVIEW for Alpha Bully ~

*****(5) out of 5 Stars!

Holy, hell!  That was HOT!!  I'm talking, like, scorching hot!  Yet it also had an amazing level of emotionally maturity to it, and a story that was incredibly well chartered.  We learn more about the two main characters as things unfold, while they are also learning so much about each other, as well as about themselves.  This is an extremely well-written work of prose, on several different levels!  A great coming-of-age tale that is so much more than just that.  The paranormal twist is not at all superfluous to the story, but weaves perfectly into the situation, and also gives reason or at least explanation for many of the events that occur.

We first meet Bailey and are immediately drawn to her.  She just sounds like an ordinary person who is having one craptastic day, and being treated horribly by the people next-door.  It actually turns out lucky for her though that she missed her school bus and couldn't get a ride from her neighbor.  That's how she happens to meet Rayne, who quickly becomes her first friend in this new town.  Both girls are social outcasts, for reasons that become evident later in the story.  (Bailey originally believed that everyone was being racist due to her Latina heritage, but the truth to a great extent has more to do with the paranormal aspects of the story.)

Turns out, Cole is also immediately drawn to Bailey as soon as she moves in next door, only that fact does nothing but upset and anger him.  So he does everything that he can to take it out on her.  He is such a mean, hateful person at the beginning of the story, that I seriously wondered how he could have any redeeming qualities or become a romantic lead worthy of Bailey.  That is, until something truly horrible happens to her, with him as the sole witness.  Pretty much from that moment on, Cole becomes her champion; supporting her emotionally as she tries to work thru things, being her confidant, even a friend, and then slowly but surely so more than that.  They do keep all of this hidden from most of the outside world for the majority of the book though.  When and how things start to be known definitely play significant parts in the tale.

There were several minor characters, mostly in the background, but some that had significant interactions with one or both of the protagonists.  All of them were interesting, and many delightful.  I am hopefully there are future volumes in this series that highlight other individuals that we just met in passing.  There was definitley a lot to work with there.

One thing that I do want to point out in particular is how well the concept of consent is handled here.  There is a huge amount of power exchange that occurs with this couple; and Cole is basically just downright bossy in every aspect of their relationship.  Of course, if you hadn't figured that out by the use of "Alpha" in the title, you really haven't been paying much attention.  But all throughout the story, Cole very specifically makes sure that Bailey is on board with whatever they are doing before proceeding with anything.  And since this is a dual point-of-view tale, we get to hear from her directly about how confident she is that he'd stop any time she asks, as well as how safe and secure this makes her feel.

This is certainly a book that I recommend for anyone who enjoys an excellently penned, spicy New Adult Paranormal Romance.  It is very rare that you run across a book so well written in every aspect, from the finely crafted plot to characters with depth to spicy hot love scenes.  It is definitely one of my favorite books that I've read so far this year!

I received a free eBook copy of this title from Xpresso Book Tours,
and have willingly provided an honest review.

Excerpt:

It’s past midnight when I wake up. My window’s open, moonlight streaming in.
That wasn’t what woke me, though.
It wasn’t the pain of the beating, either. That’s already half-healed. By tomorrow it will be nothing.
That’s the thing about wolf discipline. It’s more about dominance and humiliation than actual pain. Casey and I aren’t in real danger.
But that doesn’t mean the shit doesn’t hurt.
I rub the stubble on my chin and blink into the darkness. There’s a tug on my wolf, pulling me to the window. And I know exactly what I’m going to see when I look out.
Even so, my heart stutters.
The little human is standing outside. Standing underneath my window, looking up.
Like she’s waiting for me and she knew I’d come. Prickles run across my skin.
She’s in the same dress she wore today—another short one, blue and white stripes. She lost the Converse, though. She’s barefooted on the crushed granite. Which must hurt her tender human feet.
I’m in gym shorts. I pull on a black tank top as I stare down at her.
She’s standing there like a fucking tribute. A virginal offering.
She must really feel guilty.
I shove the window open and pop the screen out. It’s not the first time I’ve climbed out this window, but I try not to make it look too easy when I scale across the patio overhang and drop to the gravel in front of her. “Hey.”
She’s crying. Silent tears that streak down her pale cheeks. I wonder if she ever stopped. If she’s been leaking those salty tears since she saw the ugliness that is my dad shit-faced. The scent of her tears does something to me. Makes me itchy and raw, with the need to smash things with my fists.
“Stop it.” I sound menacing. I’m not sorry. She silently called me out here. She’s gonna get what she gets. I advance on her like a fucking predator.
She backs up. She must sense how dangerous I am right now. How unhinged.
“Was it because of me?”
Of course it was because of her. But I’m not going to say that. That shit isn’t her fault.
Instead, I growl, “Stop crying for me.”
Her big brown eyes are wide. I wonder how well she can see me in the dark. Not nearly as well as I can see her.
“Stop it,” I command. “I’m the one who got the beatdown.”
“Cole.” It’s a broken syllable. So much emotion packed into one sound. Apology. Pleading. Desperation, even.
My control snaps. I snatch her face up to mine with a hand behind her head and devour her mouth. It tastes like all the emotion I heard.
Except more.
I savor gratitude and soft, supple generosity. Pent up anger. Grief.
Desire.
I scoop my forearm under her ass to pick her up and slam her back against the tan stucco of her house.
She opens her lips for me, lets me in. It’s not how I imagined it.
It’s better.

More raw. Sweeter, even though I’m fucking brutal with my attack. Her lips twist over mine with the same intensity, her nails claw into my bare shoulders. I shove the bulge of my cock in the cradle of her legs, even though I know it will probably scare the shit out of her.

BOOK BLITZ for "Till I Found You" by Michelle Fernandez

Till I Found You
by Michelle Fernandez
Publication date: September 3rd, 2019
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense
Former Navy SEAL, Julian “Booker” Cruz, joined an elite security ops agency with one goal in mind: to forget his past. With the overload of work, there’s no time for romance, nor does he want it. His rule—don’t mix business with pleasure. Until one assignment puts that rule to the test. Chloe Channing is not to discover his undercover role as her protective detail from an unknown psychopath. But as their days pass together in tropical paradise, it becomes difficult to keep his desire from compromising everything. Including her safety.
All Chloe wants is to remember, but so much of her memory was lost after her assailant left her unconscious. On a summer trip with friends at her family’s estate in the Bahamas, she yearns for the quiet respite from a previous heartbreak and her tortured nightmares. She never expects a man like Julian to help her find emotional peace and physical healing. But as she falls deeper, her flashbacks slowly come together, and they include glimpses of one handsome, mysterious, yet all-too-familiar face: Julian’s.
Is Chloe’s mind playing tricks on her again… or has she met this man before?
Even if Julian could let go and risk it all, could he ever forgive himself enough to fall in love again?

Excerpt:

“I get it. You had orders.” Chloe skimmed her finger over the rim of her coffee mug.
“You were right though...I did have a choice.” Julian sipped his coffee, leaning back against the counter. “I truly am sorry.”
Chloe could see the hurt in his eyes, as if he were asking for forgiveness. And the brief smile that lifted the corners of his mouth, telling her he cared for her.
“I just hope you don’t think different of me now,” he said.
Think different of you? Are you kidding? You’re the man keeping me safe and trying to find out who’s after me. You are my real-life secret agent, the one I’ve truly fallen for. This thing we have...only exists in the movies. Every time you look at me, it rattles desire within me I didn’t know I had. What’s different is this chaotic pace has me running in circles, dizzying me. I thought of you so many times since I met you the night at the gala. Wondered if you would ever try to find me after, come look for me. I wanted to hate you for being a chicken-shit, for not seeking me out two years ago, now I want to love you for finding me again.
Tears welled in her eyes and tripped down her face. Chloe knew what she needed to say. But the words stuck in her throat.
“Doc?” Julian set his mug on the counter, then knelt down so he was eye level with her. His thumb wiped her cheek to catch the fallen tears. “What’s the matter?”
“I want to tell you something. So, please give me this time.” She looked down at her interlaced fingers.
He pulled the other chair and brought it closer to her. “I’m listening.”
All she could think of was how perfect this man was in every way. She smiled as her eyes grazed over the food he cooked. And how he managed to get all her necessities from her bedroom to make her feel at home at the safe house. This man thought of everything, making her stay as comfortable as he could manage, knowing this situation was such a clusterfuck.
She lost all train of thought, feeling winded at the sight of this beautiful man in front of her. And she knew he would protect her no matter what. His ratted spiky hair was so adorable, she wanted to comb her fingers through the ends. His clean-shaven jawline showed off the dimples on his cheeks, calling for her to kiss them.
She craved the feel of his lips on hers. She leaned in; her mouth met his. It felt silly to be so forward, but this was the only way she could express how she felt without saying another word. She kissed him with a hunger that bellied her outward desire.
He hooked his hand behind her neck and gently pulled her close. Her hands grasped his shoulders, fingernails pressing into his skin. She parted her lips and he took the invitation. His tongue sent spirals of ecstasy, igniting a yearning desire within her.
The warmth of his breath made her dizzy with emotion and the throbbing between her thighs grew stronger. The intoxicating mixture of lust and love thundered her heart, so loudly she swore she could hear it in her eardrum.
A moaned escaped when she inhaled the combination of soap and his crisp-clean cologne. He was intoxicatingly delicious. All her rationality flew out the window and an oddly primitive courage awakened all her senses that had been bottled up.
Confidence seized her legs as she rose from her chair and straddled over him, never disconnecting their lips. His erection was imminent as she grinded her hips over his lap. She tilted her head to taste his mouth from another angle, their tongues dancing in a passionate frenzy. He groaned as her fingers laced through his hair.
Julian’s warm hands snuck under her t-shirt, touching the small of her back, sending heated sparks up her spine. The feelings soaring through her were unfamiliar, yet her body called for him.
She was so turned on, she could barely fathom her own body which she no longer had power over. The need to have him was unbearable as their kisses intensified.
 She needed to feel him.
Skin on skin.

Author Bio:
Michelle is a wife, mother and an avid reader of multi-genres. She's always been passionate about reading and impressed by the influence it has on people. Which is why she started writing in the first place. Romance suspense is her most favorite genre. The damsel heroine and the alpha gentleman hero are who she writes about. It started as a hobby. One chapter turned into ten, then a novel was born. Making up worlds and characters for readers to fall in love with, is the most rewarding for her. May her words give you the 'feels' and may it be an unputdownable book!

Excerpt:

“Like you, Sophie, I’m looking for someone special, someone who can share my passions,” he begins.
“Like diving?” I ask, hopeful. Diving might not be my favorite thing, but at least it’s not weird.
“More than diving,” David explains. “It’s a lifestyle, really. Something I committed to a couple of years back. In fact, I celebrated my two-year anniversary of living this way only last month. It was a super special day.” He turns to me. “If you’re who I think you are, who I hope you are, I believe you could have shared that moment with me in a really beautiful way, Sophie.”
My hopes drop to my shoes. Uh-oh. Alert! Alert!
Jason leans his elbows on the table. “Okay, dude. Enough preamble. Give it to us straight.”
David’s face is bright when he states simply, “I live my life as much as I can in the world of merfolk.”
Merfolk?
Oh, no no no no no no.
There’s a stunned silence around the table as our jaws collectively drop.
“In the world of what?” Darcy asks, her eyes shooting to mine.
“In the world of merfolk,” he repeats as though he’s just said something totally normal, like “in an apartment downtown,” but in reality, what he said is the complete opposite of normal.
“Merfolk. As in . . . mermaids?” I manage to ask, even though I really don’t want to know the answer. I’m pretty darn sure all my hopes with this guy have just been dealt a Game of Thrones-scale deathblow.
He nods. “Mermaids, mermen, merboys, and mergirls. We’re a community, people coming together from all walks of life in the merfolk lifestyle.” He places his hand on mine. “I really hope it’s something that resonates with you, Sophie. Perhaps all of you.”
Jason puts his hand up in the air. “Oh, I’m definitely in on this.”
That strange Darryl Hannah comment about growing my hair suddenly makes sense. He wants me to be a mermaid with him, “living the merfolk lifestyle!”
This cannot be happening. The cute guy from High Tea who seemed to have it all going on, the guy with his head screwed on right, who loves his mom is a freaking merman?
No, just no.
I think I’ve burst a blood vessel in my brain.
“You’d make an amazing mermaid, Sophie,” he continues, gazing at me as he takes a strand of my hair in his hand.
I’m too stunned to respond. Instead, I simply gawp at him as though . . . well, as though he’s just told me he’s a merman.
“Okay, explain something to me here, Dave,” Jason begins. “You like to swim around dressed up as a fish with a bunch of other people, also dressed up like fish, and do what? Commune with sea life? Braid seaweed together? What?”
Jason’s tone isn’t lost on David. He might be a wannabe merman, but he’s not stupid. “I get it. This is new to you. A lot of people have this reaction when they hear about my merfolk lifestyle.”
I swear, if he says, “merfolk lifestyle” one more time, I may blow enough blood vessels to render my brain completely useless.
“So, you’re trying to be Aquaman?” This from an amused and persistent Jason.
David shakes his (human) head. “Oh, no. Aquaman’s not a merman. And anyway, he’s not real.”
“Jason Momoa is though,” the Momoa-obsessed Darcy comments.
“Aquaman’s not real but mermen are real?” Jason is trying to suppress his grin—and barely managing it.
“Look, I know you’re finding this hard to get your head around. But did you know that for thousands of years, many cultures around the globe have had stories of merfolk? Many, many cultures, not just one or two. Coincidence? I think not.”
“Back up the bus here,” Darcy says. “You’re telling us that not only do you ‘live the merfolk lifestyle,’ but you believe they exist, too?”
“Well, yes,” David replies as though it’s a commonly held truth that half human, half fish creatures swim through our waters every day of the week. “Could all those cultures be wrong?”
Err, yes, David. Yes, they could.
“How do you do it, exactly? How do you swim around dressed as a merman?” Erin asks.
“It’s really quite simple. I’ve got a monofin I use when I swim. It straps around my hips and stays on in the water. It’s a work of art, really. So beautiful. It’s very freeing to swim with it in place.”
“I would have thought it would be the exact opposite of ‘freeing,’” Darcy mutters quietly to me.
Erin darts me a quick look before saying, “Right. Well. I, ah, think we’ve learned quite a lot about you today. Thank you for sharing that with us, David.” The ever-tactful Erin gives him a shaky smile.
“I’m always keen to share this part of me with new, open people. I sense some of you might find this a little hard.” He looks pointedly at Jason. “But I hope you’ll reflect on it and perhaps even consider the lifestyle one day.” He puts his hand on mine and gives me a meaningful look.
“Well, I don’t know about the rest of us, but I’m guessing that about wraps things up,” Darcy says. “Sophie? Any final words?”
Other than “no way, José,” nothing. “I’ll, ah, see you in a minute? We need to discuss things.” I say to him.
He gives my hand a squeeze and stands up. “Is that how this works now? You discuss me, and I see if I passed?”
“Yes. We will see if you passed.” Erin does her best to suppress a grin.
Once David’s out of earshot, I shake my head, “Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.”
“Has that guy watched The Little Mermaid one too many times or something?” Erin asks.
“Soph, you’ve outdone yourself with this one. Your date thinks he’s a fish,” Darcy manages before her laughter overflows.
“Half fish, half man,” Erin corrects, Darcy’s laugh catching as she too erupts.
“Imagine if he didn’t get the memo on which parts were meant to be fish and which parts were meant to be human. He could turn up to one of these merfolk lifestyle get-togethers with a fish head and human legs.” Jason laughs at his own joke, and before long, all four of us are swept up in our laughter together.
I wipe the tears from my eyes. “I don’t get it. What’s the appeal? You can’t move your legs and you’ve got to spend all your time trying to stay afloat in the water.”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Jason says. “It’s a sex thing. He wants to get it on like he’s a fish.”
I slap him on the arm. “Jason!”
“Come on. What else can it be? The guy’s a marine biologist, he loves marine life, he works in an aquarium; he’s got a serious thing for fish.”

“Maybe he wants to do it with tuna?” Darcy says.

RELEASE BLITZ & BOOK REVIEW for "Sin for You (Rocktown Ink, #2)" by Sherilee Gray

🔥🔥 HOT NEW RELEASE 🔥🔥
Sin for You by Sherilee Gray is LIVE!

My best friend's sister is back in town, and while she’s here, she's under my protection. Quinn Parker had her heart broken, and I'll make sure no one hurts her again.

But when she starts looking around for a hot, no-strings distraction, I can’t stand back and do nothing. No one is touching this vibrant beauty... but me.

She’s the woman of my dreams, but Quinn wants a good time, not a long time. We play by her rules: no one finds out, no one gets hurt.

I have to keep it casual because an ex-con like me can't offer her forever… even if I want so much more.

~ BOOK REVIEW for Sin for You ~

****(4) out of 5 Stars!

I adored Bull when we first encountered him in the preceding novel, Sin for You.  There we got just a few glimpses of his big, growly, overprotective, hot self.  And there was so much more of him to admire here.  Plus, since this is an alternating point-of-view tale between Bull and Quinn, we get some insight into his thoughts as well, not just his actions.  The poor guy has got some serious baggage, the after effects of having a horrible, verbally and emotionally abusive mother.  Not to mention his low self-esteem after having done time when younger, from making some bad choices while trying to provide for his cousins Cal & Dane and their grandma.  But despite all that, he just comes across as a big sweetheart, in part from many of the present day things he does to help Quinn, not to mention some of her first memories of him from their childhood.  And he is totally smitten with Quinn, even before he realizes it himself.

Quinn is even more of a hot mess than is Bull, if that's possible.  She just got off the latest of a series of bad relationships with total losers, blaming herself for all of them.  She comes home to lick her wounds, and hide out from her "real" life.  But also to be close to the one person in the world who makes her feel safe: Bull.  Even though she is convinced that he thinks of her only as an unwanted and annoying little sister.

This is most definitely a slow burn love story!  The two have harbored feelings for one another for ages, from months to years even; and it is several chapters in before they even get together.  Once they decide to consumate their non-relationship, they then face any number of unusual circumstances that thwart their attempts to get frisky.  When they do get together finally, it is hot and heavy and oh so sweet.

I really didn't like the extreme yo-yo aspect of their relationship, however.  First one was in, then the other, but rarely at the same time.  I know it is all part of the angst to build the drama and suspense, but come on!  They went back and forth so much in their feelings and intentions that I felt as though I got whiplash just from following their story.  I would much rather have seen them together a whole lot more.  Just get on the same page already!  Still, the end was definitely a good one though.

It was nice to see Cal and Cassy a bit again in this tale, as well as Dale, to at least hear some about Everly, and to meet Quinn's brother Mason.  I did think that his break-up was an unnecessary distraction though.  And the epilogue wasn't even about Bull & Quinn!  Yeah, sure, it is setting up the next book for Dale and Everly's story, which I am definitely excited to read; but I wanted more Bull & Quinn still!  All in all though, another great addition to one of my recent favorite series.

Excerpt:

Quinn

I turned the handle and let the heavy wood swing open. Bull looked up from whatever he was working on, and, yeah, he looked surprised to see me at his door. He hadn’t expected me to seek him out today, definitely wasn’t expecting me to apologize or try and make things right between us. And didn’t that just make me feel like the biggest jerk in existence.

I stepped over the threshold. “You got a minute?”

“Kinda busy,” he muttered.

Yep, he was pissed with me. “This won’t take long.”

He sighed, dropped his pen, and sat back in his seat, all big and gorgeous—and surly. I wanted to climb in his lap and wrap myself around him.

Stop it!

“Look, Bull…what I said last night…” What? How could I make it right? I hadn’t really planned this out, I just knew I hated the way we’d left things. Yes, I needed distance from him, but I never wanted to hurt his feelings. Or make him feel shitty for being protective of me, no matter how misguided at times. It was the last thing I wanted. God, I’d felt sick about it since he walked out of the gallery. “I shouldn’t have said what I did, not like that.”

“All good, Quinn. Message received,” he said, expression going utterly blank.

I hated that look on his face. Hated it. I closed the door behind me and stepped farther into the room. I had to be honest with him, to make him understand. I couldn’t bring myself to leave things as they were, and I couldn’t bear to have him think badly of me.

I took a steadying breath. “Look, it’s no secret that I’ve had some… well, shitty luck where men and relationships are concerned. Like really shitty.” Luck had nothing to do with it, but I didn’t want to dig up all my dark, painful truths right then, not with Bull, not with anyone. I crossed my arms. “I’m done with relationships, with finding that perfect someone crap. Like, so done.” I made myself meet his gaze. “But I’m the kind of girl who likes affection, being close with another person.” I shrugged. “I like sex.”

Bull shifted in his seat, his frown deepening.

“Yes, I’m extremely… attracted to you, obviously.” I lifted my hands, stopping him before he could say anything, before he could reject me all over again. “It’s fine. I know you don’t feel that way about me. But you need to know that eventually, I will find someone to meet my… needs.” I motioned to him. “I’m sure you have women lined up when you need… that.” Yep, this was awkward as hell. “Well, I’m a one-man kind of woman, even if it’s just a sexual thing, you know? Even if it’s just some fun. The reason I’m telling you this is I respect you, as a friend, but I will meet someone, and I need you to be okay with it because you’re important to me.”

His graze had grown insanely intense, but I pushed on.

“So I guess I’m asking you to trust me to take care of myself, and to trust that if I’m in over my head, or need help, I will come to you. Are you cool with that?”

Bull made a weird sound and stood suddenly, his chair scraping on the wooden floor. That’s when I noticed how heavily his chest was rising and falling.

His nostrils flared, and he shook his head just once.

I blinked at him. What now? “No?”

“No,” he repeated on a near snarl. “I’m not fucking cool with that.”

“What do you mean no?” I said, shock clear in my voice.

“Come here,” he said instead of answering my question. “Now.”
