BOOK BLITZ for "The Boyfriend Whisperer 2.0" by Linda Budzinski

The Boyfriend Whisperer 2.0
by Linda Budzinski

Release Day: February 19, 2019

YA Contemporary Romance

Summary:

Alicea Springer was Boyfriend Whisperer Enterprises’ top success story. That is, until her dream date, Ty Walker, dumped her a week before prom. Now it’s senior year, and Alicea has taken over the business and given it an upgrade with an automated matchmaking program she designed and nicknamed Libby, short for LIBACA, which is short for "Love is But a Click Away."

Alicea has no interest in using the program herself. She already knows who her perfect match is… Ty. She doesn’t need an app to tell her that (or worse, match her up with someone else). In a moment of weakness, Alicea allows her friends to convince her to give Libby a try. To her horror, it matches her with the last boy on earth she'd ever want to date — Darius Groves, the class deadbeat.

When she and Darius are paired up for a class project, Alicia learns there's more to him than his bad reputation. But the more she spends time with Darius, the more she questions their match. They have so little in common. Can Alicea defy the odds and make a match of her own heart’s desire? Or will the matchmaker remain unmatched?

It’s been ten years since Shay Sinclair’s parents were murdered by a super villain, leaving she and her sister to fend for themselves. Now at age sixteen, Shay has something that villain wants. Something he needs. After a chance encounter with a superhero in a stairwell, something awakens in Shay, something that could get her killed.

Max Steel has spent the last ten years searching for one particular soul. Now, a coincidental run-in with Shay Sinclair leaves Max closer than he’s ever been to everything he’s ever wanted. But Max hits a brick wall when he goes after her. Unlike other girls her age, Shay isn’t into superheroes. So, if Max wants to win her over and be reunited with the soul inside her, he must get creative. He invites Shay into a seductive world of fame, glamour, luxury, and epic battles with villainous foes.

Now that Shay's in the mix with superheroes and crazed villains, everyone wants a piece of her. A super villain wants to devour her soul, a superhero wants to love her, and Shay just wants to go back to her normal life. It's not like in the movies. In real life, superheroes suck.

BLOG TOUR & AUTHOR INTERVIEW with F.M. Boughan for "Cinderella, Necromancer"

Cinderella, Necromancer
by F.M. Boughan
Publication Date:  September 5, 2017
Publisher:  Month9Books

Darkness can only be controlled by those with the darkest of hearts.

Ellison lost her mother at an early age. Now, sixteen, her father has found love again. He’s happy and doesn’t quite notice that Ellison does not get along with his new wife or her vicious daughters.

When Ellison discovers a necromantic tome while traveling the secret passages of her father’s mansion, she wonders if it could be the key to her eventual freedom.

Until then, she must master her dark new power, even as her stepmother makes her a servant in her own home. And when her younger brother falls incurably ill, Ellison will do anything to ease his pain, including falling prey to her stepmother’s and stepsisters’ every whim and fancy.

Stumbling into a chance meeting with Prince William during a secret visit to her mother’s grave feels like a trick of fate when her stepmother refuses to allow Ellison to attend a palace festival where she might see him once more.

But what if Ellison could see the kind and handsome prince again? What if she could attend the festival? What if she could have everything she’s ever wanted and deserved by conjuring spirits to take revenge on her cruel stepmother? And what if she actually liked watching her stepmother suffer?

As Ellison’s power grows, she loses control over the evil spirits meant to do her bidding. And as they begin to exert their own power over Ellison, it becomes harder to tell whether it is she or her stepmother who is the true monster.

CINDERELLA NECROMANCER is CINDER meets ANNA DRESSED IN BLOOD and was inspired by a real medieval grimoire of necromancy from 15th-century Germany.

  ~AUTHOR INTERVIEW with F.M. Boughan~

1) What gave you the inspiration for the storyline?

One year at Christmas, I received a copy of the book Magic in the Middle Ages, written by a professor at Northwestern University. One particular chapter in the book talks about the practice of black magic by the clergy in the 15th-century, which inspired me to track down the professor’s second book on the topic, Forbidden Magic.

That book contains a translation of a real grimoire from 15th-century Germany, and somehow between reading that and thinking about fairy tales—and how I wished that girls in fairy tales had a chance to fight back rather than wait to be rescued—my brain put these two things together and, well, here we are!

2) Are there any hidden themes in the book that you hope readers will discover?

I wouldn’t say any of the themes are particularly hidden. I wrote the book with the aim to show how good can triumph over evil regardless of the circumstances—that there is always light in dark places—and that even people doing the wrong things for the right reasons can be forces for good. I don’t ever want to glamorize evil. My intention here, which I tried to make very clear, was to demonstrate how evil can be overcome when good people, no matter how flawed, stand up and fight back.

3) Are any of the characters based on real people you know?

Not in this book! Well, unless you count Liesl’s love of sweets. I’m a dessert fiend. I’d eat it every day if I could, and I’m unabashed about my love for sugar. I mean, everything in moderation, but if there’s an element of anyone in these characters, it’s my unapologetic adoration for desserts as displayed by Ella’s friend Liesl. I mean, she attends the balls basically for the free food, and I’m not going to lie—99% of the time, that’s literally my reason for leaving the house and going to a social event.

4) Who has influenced you most as a writer?

I’ve had many influences, because I’ve tried to learn and study from as many people as possible (and still do). I think one of the biggest influences, however, has been Holly Lisle. She offered two “big” writing courses a number of years ago—How to Think Sideways and How to Revise Your Novel—and they were both indispensable resources for my growth as a writer. I still use many of her techniques, particularly in the early stages of preparing a draft.

5) If you could have any three literary characters over to your place for game night, who would you invite, what would you play, what would you serve, and why?

You realize that this is an impossible question, right? It’s so hard to choose! So, let’s go with a combination of people who I’d love to watch interact with each other.

Hercule Poirot, Sherlock Holmes, and Katniss Everdeen. And we’d play Clue.

I’d serve popcorn and tiny cups of espresso, because I think it would be hilarious to watch the refined Poirot and Holmes munching on popcorn, and I’d love to see what happens when all three of those rather large egos get fully caffeinated.
I imagine Poirot and Holmes would argue about whodunit while playing Clue, and Katniss would just get frustrated with the endless bickering and either tell them off for their nonsense or have a nap and eat the rest of the popcorn while they weren’t looking. And then she’d probably get the answer right in an off-handed comment in the last moment of the game.

Either way, it’d be a fully entertaining evening for me at least!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

F.M. Boughan is a bibliophile, a writer, and an unabashed parrot enthusiast. She can often be found writing in local coffee shops, namely because it’s hard to concentrate with a cat lying on the keyboard and a small, colorful parrot screaming into her ear. Her work is somewhat dark, somewhat violent, somewhat hopeful, and always contains a hint of magic.

Title: BLOOD ROAD
Author: Amanda McCrina
Pub. Date: April 25, 2017
Publisher: Month9Books
Format: Paperback, eBook
Pages: 329

Nineteen-year-old Torien Risto has seen dissidents dealt with before. He knows the young local girl who just knifed him will hang for assaulting an Imperial officer, unless he can stop it.

Someone inside the provincial government is kidnapping Imperial citizens and selling them across the desert to the salt mines, silencing anyone who tries to intervene. The girl’s brother is one of those who has been taken. Rejected by the corrupt courts, she’s waging a personal war against the Empire.

Determined to save her life, Torien sets out in search of answers on the Salt Road, the ancient trade route running deep into the heart of a desert—territory claimed by the hostile Mayaso tribe.

Now, Torien is no longer sure where his own loyalty lies, or how far he will go to break the cycle of tyranny, political bullying, and social injustice in an empire that seals its borders in blood.

~AUTHOR INTERVIEW with Amanda McCrina~

1) What gave you the inspiration for the storyline?

I didn’t really have one moment of inspiration. I had two characters and a setting; the rest I just kind of made up as I went along. I will say that the world of BLOOD ROAD was generally inspired by research I’d done into the later Roman Empire.

2) Are there any hidden themes in the book that you hope readers will discover?

There are definitely some underlying themes that can be picked out—the balance between justice and mercy, for example—but my hope is that readers will make their own interpretations and draw their own conclusions. There’s no one right answer, in other words.

3) Are any of the characters based on real people you know?

Not really, though I think my main characters all tend to reflect parts of me.

4) Who has influenced you most as a writer?

As far as style, I owe equal amounts to Ernest Hemingway and Rosemary Sutcliff. As far as love of the craft itself, Tolkien was an early and lasting influence.

5) If you could have any three literary characters over to your place for game night, who would you invite, what would you play, what would you serve, and why?

Ultimate battle of wits and snark: Gen from Megan Whalen Turner’s Queen’s Thief, Julie from Elizabeth Wein’s Code Name Verity (and the upcoming Pearl Thief), and Pagan from Catherine Jinks’s Pagan Chronicles playing Diplomacy, the classic game of deception and world domination. (I’d have no hope of competing, so I’d just be hovering in the background, serving cognac.)

Amanda McCrina has studied in Italy, taught English in Japan, and currently tutors Latin in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her BA in History from the University of West Georgia, and is now pursuing her MA. She writes stories that incorporate her love of history, languages, and world travel. She drinks far too much coffee and dreams of one day having a winning fantasy-hockey season.

Duality dwells at every turn, and an adolescent Zeus will learn that all too well when Hyperion attacks his family on Crete.

When the dust settles, his mother is unconscious and his best friend left for dead.

Stacking epic insult upon fatal injury, Zeus discovers the woman who raised him is not his biological mother. But to ensure her safety while she recovers, a heavy-hearted Zeus leaves her behind to seek answers at Mount Olympus Preparatory Academia.

Zeus embarks on a quest to discover who ordered the attack on his home, avenge the death of his friend, and find his birth mother. When some of his new schoolmates vanish, Zeus's quest is turned upside down, and the only way to make things right is to access the power of The Sky Throne, confront a most dangerous enemy, and take his life back.

On his way to becoming king of the Greek gods, Zeus will learn to seize power, neutralize his enemies, and fall in love.

"Destined to have a sequel or two, young teens will appreciate the story, and teachers will appreciate that it instructs readers about the pantheon of gods."--Kevin Beach, VOYA Magazine

~AUTHOR INTERVIEW with Chris Ledbetter~

1)      What gave you the inspiration for the storyline?

The storyline is loosely based on Hesiod’s Theogony, the creation myth and collection of origin stories that fuel Greek mythology.

2)      Are there any hidden themes in the book that you hope readers will discover?

Duality is a running theme, that there are two sides to everything. Also, people sometimes do bad things for good reasons.

3)      Are any of the characters based on real people you know?

Not really. Some of the characters are more what I’d call composites of people I know. They end up being like a stew where you throw in a little of this and a little of that while staying as true as possible to canonical characteristics.

4)      Who has influenced you most as a writer?

I have had the great pleasure to be in a critique group with lovely writers from the Nevada chapter of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators). Some of these writers are the greatest I’ve ever known and they influence me greatly. Outside of them, James Dashner, Dan Brown, and Laini Taylor are probably my top influences.

5)      If you could have any three literary characters over to your place for game night, who would you invite, what would you play, what would you serve, and why?

Ohmigod! This is an awesome question! *taps temples* Hmmm, okay let’s go with… Ryan Sharpe (Tracy Clark’s Mirage), Karou (Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone), and Cassie Colesworth (Martina Boone’s Compulsion). I propose that we should play CLUE: Star Wars Edition. I would order in some pizza from a local favorite, Pizzetta’s. I’d choose these people because they are among my favorite characters for many reasons. (All hail the respective authors for creating such fine characters) The game Clue is great for groups and I’m a Star Wars geek. And the pizza from Pizzetta’s is simply awesome.

About Chris:

Chris Ledbetter grew up in Durham, NC before moving to Charlottesville, VA in 11th grade. After high school, he attended Hampton University where he promptly “walked-on” to the best drum line in the conference without any prior percussion experience. He carried the bass drum for four years, something his back is not very happy about now.

After a change of heart and major, he enrolled in Old Dominion University and earned his degree in Business Administration. He’s worked in various managerial and marketing capacities throughout his life. He taught high school for six years in Culpeper, VA, and also coached football.

He has walked the streets of Los Angeles and New York City, waded in the waters of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and climbed Diamond Head crater on Hawaii and rang in the New Year in Tokyo, Japan. But he dreams of one day visiting Greece and Italy.
