~ BOOK REVIEW for Sonata ~
There are some old and new friends, acquaintances and enemies in this volume. Bethany and Romeo reappear, as does Joshua, we’re introduced to Frans and Isa as well, all of whom have their own demons and stories to tell. (We also meet my favorite character, Wolf, who makes an all too brief appearance!)
Although there is much emotional and relationship drama to be had, the suspense and political intrigue takes center stage in this tome. We learn a lot more about why Samantha is being targeted. And yet… For one thing, the ending just seemed rushed. One minute Liam is still fighting his feelings for Samantha, afraid to consider that they have a future together… and the next he seems to jump headfirst into a sort of union with her. On the intrigue side of things, the near ending produces a situation which is extremely hard to believe would occur in the ranks of a professional security firm. And then things just seem to be over, with us missing out on much of the true drama that unfolds, only hearing an abbreviated version second-hand. It just seemed a bit lacking; it doesn’t seem like enough was accomplished to guarantee Samantha and Liam’s safety.
Nonetheless, this was a good, solid ending to a long, sad, convoluted, emotionally exhausting tale. The author writes in such a way to make you want to devour the prose of her words, even when you don’t enjoy what is being said. But, luckily, despite many sad, scary, and depressing moments throughout the story, it does appear that Samantha and Liam will at last get to enjoy their own happily-ever-after.

****(4) out of 5 Stars!
Some things have changed and others stayed so much the same, as this third installment of the North Security series opens. Liam is recovering, despite his best efforts otherwise; he and Samantha are hiding out in Europe, in tiny towns where no one would look for them. But they are together in only the most literal sense, not as in experiencing the relationship she had hoped for. Eventually, it is decided that the only way to keep her safe is to kill the people who tried to kill her. And the only way to identify them is to lure them out of hiding, using Samantha as bait. So once again a tour is scheduled.
We aren’t together, but we really
aren’t apart either.

Unfortunately, there’s a lot Liam doesn’t tell me.

Taking care of you wasn't a loan. It was a privilege.

And I am very much excited to read the spin-off, Audition, featuring Joshua and Bethany!
