“The end of an Empire. The rise of a Queen.”
Emory Fae enjoys leading a quiet, normal life. That is until two mysterious, and handsome soldiers show up at her apartment, and the life she knew is instantly whisked away. Memphis Carter and Brokk Foster come from the magical and war ridden world of Kiero, and upon Emory's arrival she will discover she is the long lost heir to the Royal Line and is thrown into the Black Dawn Rebellion with a dynamic role to ignite the rebels and reclaim her throne.
With both men being darkly woven in her past Emory uncovers hidden secrets, a power held long dormant, and will soon realize there are worse things than supernatural humans, love, loss, betrayal, and a Mad King.
Some things are better left in the shadows.
~AUTHOR INTERVIEW with Mallory McCartney~
1) What gave you the inspiration for the
storyline?
Thanks for having me! For Black Dawn the
inspiration for the story came from a couple different things. First, my deep
love for fantasy. Being an avid reader helped me dream about becoming an author
and what my fantasy world would look like. Since I was young, the world of Kiero
shaped in my mind and from there I started writing when I started answering
questions about the world, the history and the characters. I drew a lot of
inspiration from mythology and constructing the different creatures we will see
in the series. And music, listening to music helps me solidify a character or a
moment, and how I want to convey the scene. These things all put together, once
I had the idea of Black Dawn, I
couldn’t shake it.
2) Are there any hidden themes in the book
that you hope readers will discover?
There aren’t any hidden themes, a lot of
the conflict seen in Black Dawn really
explores fighting for what you believe in and how it applies differently to
each character. I really hope readers will take away each of the characters
growth as the series continues and everyone’s perspectives as they go through
different challenges.
3) Are any of the characters based on real
people you know?
None of the characters are based off real
people, but some situations that the characters go through I have pulled from
some of my own life experience and the emotion that applied and have channeled
that into my writing.
4) Who has influenced you most as a writer?
My parents and my teachers, both in public
school and in high school. My parents for fueling my reading addiction at a
young age and my teachers for challenging me and helping me believe in my
writing. Authors like JK Rowling, Sarah J Maas and Laini Taylor inspire me to
this day, to always learn more about the writing craft and to never stop
dreaming!
5) If you could have any three literary
characters over to your place for game night, who would you invite, what would
you play, what would you serve, and why?
Oh, I love this question!! I would invite Akiva
from Daughter of Smoke and Bone Series, Rhys
from A Court of Thorns and Roses Series and
Sevro from Red Rising Trilogy.
Literally I would die if I was in the same room as these three! I would serve
the best variety of appetizers I could think of, from spinach dip, to deep
fried pickles to fondue because they would never have had “pub” food, and of
course a variety of delicious drinks! And we would play Risk, because I think that would be very entertaining to watch
their trained warrior minds come into play and I’m sure there would be a fast
witty conversation during xD
