RELEASE BLITZ & BOOK REVIEW for "Bad Boy Billionaire (Cocky Hero Club)" by Amie Knight

Title: Bad Boy Billionaire
A Cocky Hero Club Novel
Author: Amie Knight
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 7, 2021

Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward are excited to bring you
the Cocky Hero Club: original works from various authors
inspired by Keeland and Ward's New York Times bestselling
Cocky Bastard series.

BLURB

Dear Ida,

Never in a million years did I think I’d turn to an advice column for help, but I’m stuck. Moving to New York is my dream come true, but the big city is a tough place to navigate for a small-town, southern girl like me. Luckily, fate sent me my very own knight in shining armor.

Only Whitaker Aldrich didn’t ride in on his white steed to save me. He picked me up on his Harley Davidson, wearing a leather jacket and sporting a cocky smirk that doesn’t bode well for my man free diet. He screams one-night stand.

But there’s so much more to him than that bad boy billionaire persona. He's thoughtful and kind and his six-year-old son is his entire world.

That twinkle in his brilliant green eyes makes me weak in the knees and I’m terrified that I won’t be able to protect my already bruised heart. I should probably say no when he asks me to be his nanny, right?

Yeah, getting involved with Whit would be a huge mistake.
I should definitely say no. Maybe... Possibly?
Help!

Yours truly,
The Billionaire's Babysitter

Bad Boy Billionaire is a billionaire / single-dad / friends-to-lovers romance inspired by Stuck-Up Suit by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward.

~ BOOK REVIEW for Bad Boy Billionaire ~

****(4) out of 5

The blurb for this book totally threw me off.  I kept waiting for Grace to write to an advice column for help, or something to that effect anyway.  But it never actually happened.  What did happen, however, was a delightful tale about two people meant for each other, with nothing much else but fate on their side.  In a city as large as New York, that these two kept running into each other had to mean something.  Some of it was contrived by their friends and family, but just as often it seemed to be totally random.  Their meet-cute was adorable, as was their second, and third, and fourth.  LOL!  And despite both of their reservations, for various reasons, about getting involved, they were just so darn good together.  Luckily, they were able to actually spend time getting to know one another, and becoming true friends, before they decided to step up their relationship to something more.  Most of the book features them doubting their love and worrying about their situation, but it is all relatively low-key without any real outside influences.  That does rather change toward the end, which leads to some minor conflicts, but luckily nothing earth-shattering or extremely negative.  All of which leads eventually to a wonderful happily-ever-after for these delightful characters.

I received a free eBook copy of this title from Give Me Books Promotions,

and have willingly provided an honest review.

RELEASE BLITZ for "Unfriend Me (Jobs from Hell, #3)" by Marika Ray

Title: Unfriend Me
Series: Jobs From Hell, #3
Author: Marika Ray
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: September 23, 2020

BLURB

It’s hard to tell your best friend you’re in love with her when she’s busy dating everyone but you.

Amelia

I’ve been called a smart-mouthed, tattooed firecracker with a penchant for running straight into trouble, but after coming off the worst break up in history, all I want is to get my life together. No more trouble, no more surprises.

So when my best friend changes the rules on me, I’m not sure how to react. Though my body sure knows how to react seeing him without his shirt on. Where did all those muscles come from? And when my ex comes back to town to wreak havoc, my lofty plans go right out the window.

Titus

I fell in love with Amelia in the sixth grade when I pulled her off another girl in a hair pulling fight. And she put me directly in the friend zone. We’ve been through everything together from ER trips after skateboarding mishaps to fighting off a peacock with a mean streak. But the one thing I’ve never told her is how I really feel. Now that Amelia is single again, it’s time to make my move. But Amelia has never gone down without a fight involved, and this will be no different.

Either she’ll fall in love with me like I hope, or Amelia will unfriend me forever.

EXCERPT

I stepped closer to the window, seeing our overflow dirt parking lot. And then my gaze slid left where I saw Titus standing by a huge pile of wood and drywall that he’d ripped out of the guest room. His T-shirt was off and there was a healthy dose of sweat dripping down his torso. He twisted off the cap to a water bottle and chugged the whole thing, his Adam’s apple working to hypnotize me. When was the last time I’d seen him without a shirt?
Because that? That specimen with six-pack abs and a chest you could bounce quarters off of wasn’t the Titus I remembered. He’d always been lanky, which made sense, given his extraordinary height. And he’d always had muscles because he was athletic in school and his job required strength. But holy wow. What the hell had happened over the last year?
My nose hit the cold glass and I jumped back, rubbing it as I pondered the changes in Titus when I hadn’t been looking. The steady hum in my gut also gave me pause. Was that...lust?
My brain screamed at me to walk away and quit staring at him, but my body was having nothing of it. We were gonna pull up a chair and stay for the show for as long as the show lasted. Better yet, why not go out there and see it up close?
Good judgement had always been a weak spot in my character, but I never shamed myself for it. I went with impulses, so what? Sometimes they worked out great. Other times, not so much. But the way I figured it, you never got some excitement in your life unless you made the leap. And right now, I wanted some excitement in the form of a half-dressed Titus. I’d worry about what it all meant later. Much later.
“Yo, T!” I hollered as soon as I turned the corner outside and stepped off the blacktop onto the dirt.
Titus swiped the sweat from his forehead with his bulging bicep. His face lit up in an easy smile when he saw me. “Hey, Lia. Almost done here.”
I sauntered over, not looking where I was going. “Yeah, I see that.”
There was a bead of sweat sliding down right between his pecs. A fascinating journey of bumps and valleys.
A throat clearing had me looking up. Titus had a playful look in his eye, his mouth tugging into a smile. “Are you undressing me with your eyes, Amelia Waldo?”
I guess I was, but he didn’t have to call me out like that. “Are you kidding me? You can’t walk around half-dressed and then blame a girl for looking. If I was half-dressed, wouldn’t you be looking at me?”
Titus took a giant step forward and flicked the collar of my shirt. He didn’t even touch me, but I could feel it all the way to the tips of my toes.
“Hell, yeah, I would. I’d ogle you until my eyes bled.” His gaze flicked down the length of my body and suddenly I needed to squeeze my thighs together.
“Are we actually doing this? We’re flirting? You and me?” I whispered it, afraid to say it too loud. Like the volume of my voice would make it something real I couldn’t take back.
Titus shrugged slow and lazy, his eyes heating further. That finger still toyed with my shirt. If he didn’t stop, I might melt into a puddle at his feet.
“I don’t see why we shouldn’t. You’re hot, I’m hot. Kind of makes sense to flirt.”
I smirked. “Wow. Nice ego you got there.” I studied him seriously. “You don’t worry about harming our friendship?”
Titus’s eyelids slid down and I wondered what it would be like to kiss him. He had to be a good kisser after kissing the entire female population of Auburn Hill.
“Sometimes friends make the best lovers.”

~ BOOK REVIEW for Alpha Knight ~

****(4) out of 5 Stars!

While not quite as good as the first volume (Alpha Bully), this was a very good addition to this series.  Sloane and Bo meet under rather unusual circumstances, when she is working with his brother Winslow to clean up for sale a car that she's stolen.  The reasons behind this Cave Hills High School "princess" jacking cars are something that doesn't become know to Bo for quite some time.  And they really precipitate almost all of the action in the book.

The fact that Sloane is stealing cars as a way to try to get out of the trouble that she's in is one of the main things that I did not enjoy about the book.  Despite being told that the money she'd earn from doing so isn't enough to cover someone else's debt that she is being forced to pay, she continues on with this dangerous and pointless course of action.  Sloane also refuses to seek help from anyone in her life, even though there are people around that she could probably trust and who might even be able to help her.  Bo also, once he discovers her secrets, doesn't ask for help from his or a nearby pack, or from any of a number of (some rather powerful) adults who might be able to assist them.  Instead, he takes on his own dangerous attempt of trying to earn some money that they both know will not be anywhere near enough.  Shortly thereafter, in spite of knowing what Sloane is probably thinking and things that may have led her to abandon him, does nothing but wallow in his hurt, leaving her alone in this dangerous situation for an extended period of time.  Even the ending, while it appears that they have made it out of their predicament freely, does not entail a resolution that necessarily guarantees their long-term safety.  Really, I often just wanted to smack one or the other of them upside the head!

Aside from those annoying plot points and character flaws though, the remainder of the story is actually quite good, and the writing itself superb.  Despite both of their efforts to hold the other at a distance and keep their feelings in check, Bo and Sloane fall hard and fast for one another on a variety of levels.  Their physical attraction is strong and powerful, while the emotional connection that they form is meaningful and substantial.

There aren't an awful lot of sexy time scenes in this book, but the ones that they do share are quite hot.  Again, while there are, as in the prior book of the series, instances of power-exchange and punishment, there's a strong vibe of implied consent that runs through their interactions.  Bo evens asks Sloane on more than one occasion if she's okay with things that have transpired between them, just to be sure; and he leaves her with various options to protest, or even to get rid of him should she actually be so inclined.

There are a few peripheral characters mentioned in the book, although not many who come in to play very much at all.  Some of the players from Alpha Bully reemerge, and some of the same events are covered.  But overall there is not a lot of interaction with any of them.  There is, however, serious implication that there will be future stories in the series starrring other members of the Wolf Ridge High alpha-holes clique.  And I, for one, definitely look forward to reading them!

Excerpt:

Teri offers, “It’s a good thing you came because she’s probably going to win Homecoming Queen, and she wasn’t even going to go.”
That’s right. Homecoming.
And I’m her date.
“When is that?”
Teri narrows her eyes. “Tonight,” she says with a what-the-hell-is-wrong-with-you expression.
Tonight. Right. Fuck—I have a football game.
I wink, though. “I know, I meant what time?”
“Seven,” Teri and Samatha say at once.
Seven. That might work. The game is at four. If Coach lets me play, I still have time afterwards to shower, put on a tie and get back to Cave Hills. Might be a little late, but that’s fashionable.
“We don’t need to go,” Sloane attempts.
“Of course we do, babycakes.” I reach over and thumb some peanut butter from the corner of her lips, loving playing the doting boyfriend role because it pisses her off. “That’s the whole reason I’m here. And you might get crowned queen. And here I just thought you were a princess.”
She elbows me.
I catch her around the waist and pull her back on my lap as punishment. When she struggles, I tickle her, then open my knees to trap her in the hole between them, so I can cage her with legs and arms.
It’s way too intimate, and I know that fucking drives her crazy.
I like torturing her.
I also like the way she feels in my arms. Her scent all up in my nostrils, her soft skin under my hands.
I normally don’t have a thing for humans, but I could honestly say a girl like this one would be worth making an exception for.
Too bad I don’t trust her as far as I can throw her.
And she hates me.
And she destroyed my family.

Review

***(3) out of 5 Stars!

Wow, this book was powerful!  It starts out with Kyle most definitely being the bad guy.  And things aren't looking up for him in that regard for quite some time, especially the more we learn about his history with Chloe.  But things aren't always as they seem, including Kyle.  Through a series of twists and turns and revelations, including several flashbacks, the more we learn about both of these characters, as well as those around them.  To say that there were a few surprises is a vast understatement.  Perhaps the biggest surprise is how truly in love with and devoted Kyle is to Chloe.  Which still doesn't stop him from hurting her yet again.  In fact, one of the reasons that this book doesn't get a higher star rating from me is the simple fact that it was so down, dreary and depressing.  After all of the horrible things thrown at Chloe throughout her life, I often wondered why she would even want to go on.  Thankfully, there are some redeeming moments and saving graces, then Kyle and Chloe eventually get to have some semblance of a happily ever after, but it is definitely hard won and certainly not without repurcussions and long-lasting effects.
