The Princess and the Pawn
(The Raven and the Dove, #0.5)
by Kaitlyn Davis

SUMMARY:

A princess longing to be free. A bastard aching to belong. Fate brought them together, now destiny will tear them apart...

Don't miss this prequel novella to The Raven and the Dove, an avian-inspired fantasy retelling of Tristan and Isolde perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Sabaa Tahir, and Leigh Bardugo!

Taking place the day before book one of the series begins, The Princess and the Pawn follows two of the four main characters—Lyana, the dove princess, and Rafe, the bastard born raven—as they prepare for the upcoming courtship trials, in which the royal heirs of all the avian houses compete for mates.

The Princess and the Pawn ~

***(3) out of 5 Stars!

Although a fairly short read at just seven chapters, this seemed to be a pretty good introduction to the first book and series.  There was quite a lot of world-building and ground-laying that happend in a short amount of time.  We meet several characters who appear to be main players in the action that will be taking places, including some that remain rather mysterious.  There is apparently quite a bit going on in all different quarters, and it should be rather intriguing to read and try to figure all of it out.
